A few days into the closing of the summer transfer window, there appears to be no breakthrough on Manchester United's pursuit of Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho. The two sides are at odds on the money question for the deal to push through but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still optimistic that his target will make the switch.
Solskjaer is said to be keeping in touch with Sancho and the latter has the understanding that he'll be at Old Trafford this October. The United boss has assured the Bundesliga sensation he will be part of the Red Devils roster before the transfer deadline this summer expires.
According to AS, the recent conversation between Solskjaer and Sancho centered on the young winger signing with United at the last minute. The negotiations on the deal seemed to have hit a snag as Dortmund insisted on the full payment of £108 million, the amount demanded by the Bundesliga side as transfer fee for Sancho's release.
However, Solskjaer's side is holding off and looking to reduce the cost of the transfer. Per the same report, the Norwegian seemed convinced that his priority signing will make the jump before October 5. But there was no mention of how exactly the completion of the deal will play out.
In recent weeks, Dortmund indicated that a transfer deal on the young winger this summer is already out of the question. The deadline has passed and the Germans are no longer willing to hold another round of talks.
The latest from the German side appeared to show that Sancho will be campaigning as a BVB player in the season and there is no expected disruption. Dortmund boss Michael Zorc has made clear that the England international will remain in his roster and no transfer offers will be entertained.
"We have Jadon Sancho and Zagadou who are going to the fourth year at the club," Metro reported the manager as saying.
Zorc made the statement amid the reports that suggested United will make the final offer on Sancho. It is understood the bid will be the last move coming from the Premier League giants and a no from Dortmund will prompt Solskjaer to look for an alternative midfielder.
The United manager is thought to be plotting at least four signings before the transfer window closes and so far, only one position has been filled. Donny van de Beek was acquired from Ajax in recent weeks and the deal cost the club £40 million.
Another target is Porto defender Alex Telles but the deal is not expected for a swift conclusion as United and the Portuguese side have yet to agree on the question of valuation.
