Netflix confirmed that Stranger Things season 4 is back in production. Filming of the series was halted earlier this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. Now, the good news is that the cast and crew are back to working and preparing to deliver more mysteries and exciting adventures in the latest installment.

In the latest Twitter post, the series' official account confirmed that Stranger Things season 4 officially resumes filming. What makes the announcement even more exciting is that the tweet includes an image from the set with a caption "meanwhile in the upside down..."

The third installment concluded with the Starcourt Mall being destroyed, while Hawkins inhabitants were torn apart. The first teaser released in February revealed that Sheriff Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is still alive. He's in a Russian camp, a town left undefended from the Upside Down.

In Stranger Things season 4, we're going to see Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), and the rest teaming up again to protect Hawkins from new supernatural threats. While the first photo didn't tease too much, the background featured an imposing grandfather clock in darkness.

Perhaps, this is a sequence that took place in the Upside Down. The series has already featured a lot of references and callbacks to iconic 80s films. However, the story still hasn't explored and tackled the classic science fiction trope of time travel.

Stranger Things season 4 could, finally, see the gang going backward in to rescue and save Jim Hopper. Also, they could use time-traveling to bring balance back to the town of Hawkins. We could expect more news in the coming weeks now that the series is back in production.

In addition to Harbour, Brown, and Wolfhard, the new season will see the return of Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair.

Meanwhile, series creators Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer previously discussed the future of the show beyond the fourth installment. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the brothers confirmed that the next chapter won't be the last one for the sci-fi drama.

As for the official release date of Stranger Things season 4, nothing is confirmed as of this writing. But, because of the lengthy hiatus and post-production, the series won't be returning this year. Instead, we could expect the new season dropping at some point in 2021 on Netflix.
