The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 is happening on AMC even though the first installment hasn't premiered as of yet. The first season of The Walking Dead spin-off is coming on October 4 on the network, but there's already a plan for the next chapter of the series.

The spin-off was first announced back in July 2018. Then, in January 2020, AMC confirmed that the series would consist only of two installments. This means that the future of The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 is already secured on the network.

The series is quite different from the flagship show. The story follows teenagers in Nebraska and is set 10 years after the apocalypse. The characters include sisters Hope (Alexa Mansour) and Iris Bennett (Aliyah Royale), who are trying to find out more about their family.

Reportedly, preparation for The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 is on the way. Some of the cast members have been training for more action-packed scenes, as well. Mansour, in particular, was said to have taken up kickboxing in order to prepare herself for what's coming in the next chapter.

The second installment will consist of 10 episodes, with the final one wrapping up the entire storyline. In January 2020, AMC's Sarah Barnett explained that the spin-off isn't imitating the substance of the main show. It is a "two-season closed-ended series" and tells a very specific and distinct story.

Meanwhile, fans were pleased the spin-off only consists of two installments. One fan said that the story is going to be tight with a definite endpoint. Another fan is excited to see where the story is heading, and with two seasons, it leaves people wanting more.

The good thing is that The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 will have no cliffhangers and will answer all the questions. As for the release date, nothing is confirmed at the moment. Its arrival may have been impacted due to the current global health crisis.

But, fans can expect the next installment arriving in either next year or the following year. The season 1 finale is set to air on December 6 on AMC. If cast and crew could start production immediately, then we can see the new season in late 2021 or early 2022.

In July 2020, showrunner Matt Negrete revealed during the Comic-Con that he's already half-way through writing The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2. Hence, filming could begin soon once the first season concludes.
