If there's one throne that Prince Charles fears, it's one that's "full of daggers" and he refused to sit on it despite getting some encouragement from his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
Prince Charles and Camilla were at the Ulster Museum in North Ireland where they were shown the replica of the Game of Thrones' famous Iron Throne. According to reports, the piece was made by a local artist for the popular TV series' wrap party in 2019.
But, royal photographer Ian Vogler revealed that the Prince of Wales refused to take a seat even though his wife prodded him. Vogler said that the heir to the British throne commented on the number of daggers on the Iron Throne. The special seat was actually made of wicker, which means it won't hurt or puncture, but Prince Charles still refused and simply stood next to the throne for the photo op.
Vogler said that he isn't personally a fan of the show but Charles and Camilla apparently know what the Iron Throne was. However, the photographer also thinks that Prince Charles didn't want to have his photo taken while he's sitting on the Iron Throne to avoid becoming a meme on the internet.
The Cornwall royals were not the first to see a Game of Thrones prop up close. In 2014, Queen Elizabeth was actually led to the actual Iron Throne used in the series when she visited North Ireland, where the show filmed for eight seasons.
Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff recalled that they learned Queen Elizabeth won't actually sit down on a foreign throne, even if it's a make-believe monarchy. Her Majesty is bounded by an obscure rule that most people will not be familiar with.
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly big fans of Game of Thrones and will likely envy Prince Charles and Camilla's museum trip. When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met one of the actors on the show during a royal engagement in Germany in 2017, they tried to ask for spoilers.
But, like any good actor, Tom Wlaschiha kept his mouth zipped. He did say that he's very surprised that the royals had the time to watch such a long-running show.
Vogler said that Prince Charles and Camilla were also quizzed about Game of Thrones for fun. Camilla seems not too familiar with the show's extensive story and, unfortunately, he didn't hear what Prince Charles had to say about the series.
