The troubles in Barcelona appear on the mend now and team captain Lionel Messi is his usual self, which according to Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni is a good thing. The coach said Messi remaining in Camp Nou for the season is "positive" for his team because the superstar seems calm and ready for competitive play.

The last season turned out tumultuous for the six-time Ballon d'Or winner. He feuded with Barcelona executives on many occasions and did not hold back in making his distaste known on how things were run at the Catalan club.

Then when the campaign ended, Messi shocked the football world by demanding a transfer out of Barcelona. He only decided to step back when faced with the possibility of long legal battles. In the end, the Argentine opted for the practical move - he is staying on with the La Liga giants and the see through the end of his contract.

Scaloni said he is happy that for now, Messi is settled and ready to join his Argentina teammates for the World Cup qualifying campaign that starts on Thursday. The coach understood that the star's issue with Barcelona has been resolved.

"I spoke to Leo when everything was resolved and I saw him calm ... For us, it's positive that he stayed because he was able to play immediately," Goal reported Scaloni as saying.

He admitted that he monitored the Messi situation from a distance and hope that the captain's conflict with Barcelona will come to an end. It appeared to be the situation right now and the coach said the 33-year-old is calm and fit to play.

Messi will again headline for Argentina in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which is expected as the last for the football icon. The star will be 35 when the competition starts and it will serve as his last shot to winning the title that is missing on his catalog of honors.

Scaloni said Messi in Qatar will be most likely if Argentina will clear the hurdles heading to the final stage of the competition. He admitted that the superstar's role in 2022 has yet to be discussed as the team is taking things one game at a time.

The coach, however, allowed a glimpse of how things will unfold. To be sure, Messi will be among the highlights of Argentina's World Cup campaign. Scaloni revealed the star will play in his strongest position - as an attacking forward.

"I don't think Leo has changed so much his way of playing or his position on the court, in the end, he is a forward and is always in those positions," Be In Sports reported the Argentina boss as saying.

No matter what position Messi plays, Scaloni said the superstar will always be a striker.
