Netflix has yet to announce the coming of Mindhunter Season 3. As it has been a year since the previous season ended, will fans still see the return of Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany)?

Mindhunter is considered to be one of the most standout shows of the last decade. Based on John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker's book, Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, it tells the story of criminal-personality profiling of serial killers and mass murderers.

Netflix adapted the show in 2017 and dropped its second season in 2019. So, when will fans get to see Mindhunter Season 3? Is it already canceled?

According to HITC, the new season is not canceled. However, it is on indefinite hold.

TVLine reported Mindhunter Season 3 was put on hold as the cast and crew were released from their contracts. The series' director, David Fincher, is busy directing the new Netflix film, Mank, and producing Love, Death and Robots Season 2.

After these projects, he may begin working on Mindhunter Season 3. With his busy schedule, it may not be fair to hold the actors from seeking new works due to their contract, while Fincher is doing another show of his own.

McCallany, on the other hand, told Pop Culture everyone was hopeful for the making of Mindhunter Season 3 to Season 5. With the fans' positive response to the show, it only showed how they liked it.

The series choreographer Erik Messerschmidt also weighed in on the series's return after wrapping the filming of Mank. Although he admitted he had no idea with the likelihood of the show's renewal, it would be an honor for him to return to the series, Devdiscourse noted.

Messerschmidt continued that he loved working with Fincher and adored the show's cast and crew. He also found himself blessed to have the opportunity to work on the series and contributed to its development.

Although working on the Netflix series was the most important and poignant point of his career, he really had no idea what would be Mindhunter Season 3's future. If ever the new season would push through, fans expected to see the original characters' return.

Of course, Groff would return as Holden, McCallany, Bill, and Anna Torv as Wendy Carr. Stacey Roca might also reprise her role as Nancy Tench, Joe Tuttle as Greg Smith and Michael Cerveris as Ted Gunn. There might also be new faces coming to Mindhunter Season 3.
