Legacies season 3 is not coming until next year on The CW. The series wasn't able to start production immediately due to the current global health crisis. The good news is that the cast and crew are now back on set to film new episodes of the latest installment.

Recently, executive producer Julie Plec confirmed on Twitter that filming for Legacies season 3 has officially kicked off, alongside Roswell, New Mexico season 3. Also, the official Instagram account of the series shared some photos featuring the cast members on the set of the upcoming installment.

However, some things might be a little bit different because of the pandemic. Both cast and crew need to follow certain health guidelines and protocols to ensure their safety. The series has already been delayed so everyone is being careful to avoid further setbacks along the way.

In fact, the photos showed that cast members are wearing masks while on set and following the proper social distancing measures. They're all taking every possible precaution in order to keep their working environment safe. Perhaps, we could also see fewer group scenes this time around.

As for what we can expect in Legacies season 3, it will likely pick up the events that happened in the season 2 finale. The cliffhanger involving Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) and Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi) will be the center of everything in the early run.

This wasn't meant to be the original finale, but the series opted for it due to the real-life health crisis. The two were in a dream-like state, and Hope infiltrated Josie Saltzman's (Kaylee Bryant) to free her from her dark impulses.

Some hidden secrets might be uncovered, and there could be big revelations at some point. Yet, we could also see some fun lighthearted moments coming in the story. For instance, Plec noted on her post that she's excited for everyone to see the musical episode.

This was supposed to air in the spring but the schedule wasn't followed because of the pandemic. It's exciting to see the students of the Salvatore School taking part in this episode. After all, this is somehow new for the story.

Meanwhile, Leo Howard has been promoted as a series regular in Legacies season 3. The actor played the character of Ethan, a recurring player in the second installment. The promotion indicates that more stories are coming for him and his past might be explored, as well.

Legacies season 3 is expected to premiere at some point in 2021 on The CW.
