The Last Kingdom season 5 is officially happening on Netflix. The new chapter continues to follow the journey of Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon). But, how old will the conflicted hero be once the latest installment arrives?

Only a few details were known about The Last Kingdom season 5 at the moment. The series is based on British author Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories novel series, with the 13th and final book, War Lord, previously released in the UK. It covers the events ahead of the unification of England as one country.

Speaking to Radio Times, Cornwell discussed what fans can expect in the final book, which could be used in the potential season 6. He revealed that Uhtred looks completely different in War Lord, wherein he gets a lot older with a grey beard and deep lines.

Dreymon, on the other hand, teased his character's age in The Last Kingdom season 5. The actor noted that their problem is how to make Uhtred looks old. He explained how the crew worked in order to get the right age of his character.

He said that Uhtred starts at the age of 54 and ends up 60 in the upcoming installment. Their biggest problem, however, is making it look like the character has aged without looking "comical." The costume designers need to transform Dreymon into a mid-50s-looking man.

The Last Kingdom season 5 sees an older Uhtred overseeing King Aethelstan (Caspar Griffiths) now that he knows the responsibilities of having such a power. His rivalry with his old friend Brida (Emily Cox), who tried to kill him during the siege at Winchester, will also continue.

When it comes to Uhtred's romantic life, his former love interest Aethelflaed (Millie Brady) is returning. She's older and a more experienced leader this time around. The two decided to end their relationship so that Aethelflaed's people would trust her and let her lead without any distractions from men.

A new face is coming in the latest installment, as well. The fourth season introduced a character named Eadith (Stefanie Martini). She could be Uhtred's new love interest -- if ever the series follows the events in the books.

The Last Kingdom season 5 is based on the books Warriors of the Storms, and The Flame Bearer. Those who have read the novels may have ideas as to what's coming for Uhtred and the rest. There are still a few more books to cover after that, so the series might be renewed for another season.
