Facebook has started its Dark Mode public testing for iOS devices roughly five months after announcing the same and you would want to know how to enable the feature on your Apple device.
A public rollout of the Dark Mode support for iOS devices was recently initiated by Facebook, prompting some Apple devices users to ask how to enable the feature. The Dark Mode public test came five months after the giant social network platform confirmed plans of rolling out the feature's support for iOS devices, and more than a year after the feature was implemented on iPhones running iOS 13.
What is the Dark Mode support for iOS and how will its public testing make an impact on you as an iPhone and Facebook user? The Dark Mode feature is the new Facebook look which replaces the usual bright interface of the social network platform on both desktop computers and mobile phones. While it may be a small change for some, it is a vital enhancement for many users. For one, many users find it easy to read when white text is set on a dark background. Furthermore, it also lowers the glare when you are using the app in dark or low-light conditions.
Another important benefit of the Dark Mode support for iOS has something to do with your iPhone's battery. According to Google researchers, pixel color greatly affects the power draw, with white pixels using a significant amount of energy as compared to black pixels. This is especially true for smartphones with AMOLED screens, like the new iPhone 12 family, where pure black pixels are off by default. Switching the bright white interface of Facebook with something darker helps your iPhone's batteries last longer between charges.
A small percentage of users already saw the Dark Mode support for iOS when Facebook rolled out the new design to a select few in June of this year. Recently, the social network giant confirmed that it is working with tech blogger Jane Manchun Wong as it begins public testing of the Dark Mode support on iPhones. Wong has a history of revealing yet-to-launch features or those which are still in the testing phase through the use of reverse engineering strategies.

This does not mean, however, that Facebook's Dark Mode support on iOS is available to everyone, now that it is already in the public testing phase. It does signify that the social network giant's new feature is coming to a broader set of users now. If you wish to see if Dark Mode is already available on your iPhone through your Facebook account, check if you have the updated version of the Facebook app. Then, launch the app and tap the three lines found at the bottom-right of the navigation bar. Tap 'Settings & Privacy,' then look for the new 'Dark Mode' option. Select between System, On, or Off. With the 'System' option, the app will fine-tune its looks based on your iOS device's settings.
Bear in mind, though, that Facebook's Dark Mode support on iOS is not yet rolled out for everyone. It is still on a public test phase, though the social network giant did indicate that a full rollout may commence sooner than expected. If you do not see the feature yet, then you can patiently wait until it is fully rolled out sometime this year, or perhaps early next year.
