Apple further improved its accurate weather app, Dark Sky, and made it even better with an enhanced location search, along with many other improvements.

Dark Sky, the popular weather app of Apple, recently underwent a series of improvements that resulted in a better location search function and other improvements like the real-time precipitation information. The app, which was acquired by Apple in March, offers hyper-local weather data with down-to-the-minute weather forecasts so you will know exactly when the rain starts or stop at your precise location.

The app first appeared in the market in 2012, with The Verge describing the app as "one of the best weather apps for the iPhone" in 2014. In March of 2020, Apple bought Dark Sky for an undisclosed amount, and on March 31, Adam Grossman, the co-founder of Dark Sky posted on his blog that their goal has always been to provide everyone with the best weather data so people can stay dry and safe in a private manner. "There is no better place to accomplish these goals than at Apple. We're thrilled to have the opportunity to reach far more people, with far more impact, than we ever could alone," Grossman wrote in his blog. After Apple acquired Dark Sky, it further enhanced the app to feature the now better location search and other enhancements.

August 1 marked the total shutdown of Dark Sky for Android and Wear OS. Twitter exploded with posts telling other Android users that "The Dark Sky app has shut down." On the other hand, Apple engineers worked on Dark Sky enhancements that will improve its location search, as well as add more features as it gets ready to launch after the release of iOS 14. Today, aside from the app's minute-by-minute information showing the rain or snow's intensity in the coming hour, it will also be able to tell if the weather will become wetter, colder, or warmer the following day.

Apple's Dark Sky version 6.8.5, aside from having a better location search, also features a huge watch complication designed for use with watchOS 7. It also has more recommended and relevant results so users would find it easy to stumble upon what they are looking for. A new location icon has also been added so users will know whether or not Precise Location is disabled in the iOS 14 Privacy settings. Apple engineers also implemented a fix for an issue that causes duplicate forecast pages after moving the information from Recent Searches to the Saved section.

With the integration of Dark Sky in iOS 14, along with its improved location search and many other enhancements, Apple expects users to download the app at its online store. You can buy the Dark Sky app, which comes complete with its improvements and updates, for $3.99 at the App Store.
