Tadadi Tamori announced the impending ending of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. The manga series is about to end in the upcoming three chapters, while its fourth volume will be its last.
According to Anime News Network, if there will be no further delays, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online will come to a close in January. Tamori explained the manga is originally set to end in just three volumes, but he decided to add another one.
Also, he revealed there are a lot of reasons why he has to conclude the series. Tamori stressed he and other people behind this project would find it difficult to move forward.
However, he said they never mind continuing it and it is also fine with them if there will be a new artist to continue the story. So, where will it go from here?
For its impending ending, fans are about the see the end of the first Squad Jam arc from the original light novel series with the same name. Sadly, Tamori has no plans to feature the second Squad Jam arc.
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online was originally launched in Dengeki Maoh magazine in 2015. Its third volume was published in November 2018, while Yen Press published its English dubbed in 2019, per Spoiler Guy.
It is the original Sword Art Online manga series's spinoff, based on the novel series by Keiichi Sigsawa and Kouhaku Kuroboshi. The novel has inspired the anime adaptation that gave birth to different branches, from movies to video games.
Comicbook noted there are rumors Sword Art Online Progressive adaptation would be a movie and not a full series. After Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld ended, it had been announced that there would be a new anime based on the Progressive side novels.
Here, the series creator Reki Kawahara returned to the Aincrad arc to explore more about the earlier days of Asuna and Kirito's growing relationship. Twitter user SugoiLITE Sword Art Online Progressive is "being touted as a movie/film project."
The upcoming project has yet to be officially announced as either a full series or a movie. So, if it will be a film, there may be a lot of benefits, like imminent release date, although it may edit or remove some materials from the original novel.
