It has been five years since fans last saw Riley's incredible story and her five core emotions, Fear, Anger, Joy, Disgust, and Sadness, trying to get on with everyday life. With the success of the first movie, will Inside Out 2 come to fruition?

The 2015 Inside Out film was a huge success at the box office. Since then, fans have been waiting for the coming of Inside Out 2.

According to Devdiscourse, a movie sequel was already planned. The first movie director Pete Docter said that although they had no idea how to work on the second film, a sequel was possible.

He continued he and Pixar would explore some ideas to continue Riley's story. Docter told Entertainment Weekly they would see if anything would turn up, especially creating a successful movie as Inside Out was never easy.

The Pixar President Jim Morris, on the other hand, said in an interview that although the demand for the sequel was high, they had committed their resources to do original movies instead.

So, there would be no sequels coming for any Pixar movies, shutting fans' hope for Inside Out 2. Anyhow, the movie's followers refused to give up.

They believe Inside Out 2 may be in development and Pixar is only being mum about it to avoid fans from making different assumptions and theories about the plot. Some even presume the 2020 Pixar movie Soul is a sequel to the film, per Screenrant.

Also helmed by Docter, the two films both explored humanity and being one's self. After its first trailer dropped earlier this year, viewers instantly saw the connection between the two movies, believing it was a secret Inside Out sequel.

However, the film's creative team denied the assumption. Despite the similarities, Soul is an original movie with an original narrative. Co-director Kemp Power cleared it is not part of any film series.

Anyhow, Docter explained Inside Out and Soul were intimately connected in ways that fans might find familiar. Powers stressed it did not necessarily mean that Soul was not a sequel. It was just that Docter did not confirm if it were a sequel.

The last time Pixar made sequels films was for its biggest releases, Toy Story 4 and Incredibles 2. Since then, it had been dropping original movies that were not part of any franchise.
