Prince William is currently the second in line to the British throne after his father, the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles. But once he becomes the King of England, major changes will take place, which will impact not just his family but also his subjects.
According to My London, Prince William will be the new face of the pound notes and coins when he becomes the monarch. This means that he U.K. central bank will have to print new money bearing his image and signature. In the same way, the post office will also have to reprint new stamps to replace the old monarch's face.
Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children will also have to move houses as part of their new arrangement. Currently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge call Kensington Palace their home. But once William is the King, Buckingham Palace will be his official residence. Assuming that his children are still below the legal age, they will also have to live with their parents until they are adults.
However, Prince William might still consider Anmer Hall in Norfolk as his other home since it was a personal and private gift to him from Queen Elizabeth. He could also follow in his father's plan to remain in Clarence House because Buckingham Palace is too big. William might not necessarily inherit the Queen's other private properties, such as Windsor Castle, Sandringham and Balmoral because that's for the Queen to decide.
The Duke of Cambridge might also consider changing his name. His great-grandfather, King George VI was christened as Prince Albert, more commonly called Bertie, before he changed and used his regnal name.
King Edward VIII, King George's older brother, was christened David. Queen Elizabeth fondly called him Uncle David. Incidentally, Queen Elizabeth chose her personal name as her regnal name.
The public will always refer to the monarch by his or her regnal name. According to royal experts, Prince Charles might go with King George VII for his regnal name but no one has speculated on Prince William's choice yet.
Prince William may only ascend the throne if Prince Charles dies or abdicates and the condition is the same for the Prince of Wales, who has prepared for this role for 50 years. He can only be the King if Queen Elizabeth retires or passes on.
The eldest son of Prince William, Prince George, will also go through some major changes as he will be the heir apparent. Assuming that George is of legal age by then, he will also begin his training as the future monarch. He won't, however, be named the Duke of Cambridge, his father's old title since that will merge with the Crown when Prince William is King.
