The Mandalorian season 3 is officially happening on Disney+, though the production date for the latest installment has yet to be announced. Now, recent reports suggest that the series is set to begin filming soon, with November being the potential start date.
The second season of the live-action Star Wars TV show is currently airing, but fans were already eager to get more news about The Mandalorian season 3. Series creator Jon Favreau confirmed that he's already working on the next chapter of the story.
The official production date schedule remains unknown as of this writing. But, Favreau hinted that filming could start in 2020 and might be "sooner than expected." A previous listing on the Production Weekly teased that "Buccaneer" is the working title for the third installment.
On November 5, Deadline reported that The Mandalorian season 3 is aiming to start production "next week" -- or either in late November or early December. The filming schedule is promising, considering the current situation due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Reportedly, Favreau is confident that the production won't be affected by the pandemic since the series comes with smaller sets. If the filming schedule will be pushed through and there won't be further delays, we could expect the show coming back at some point in 2021 on Disney+.
The first season occupied the Friday slot of the last two months of 2019, the same with the second installment in 2020. The third outing will likely follow this schedule, with new episodes coming every Friday starting in either October or November 2021.
At the moment, Disney+ and Lucasfilm are keeping details under wraps about the third installment. However, some rumors suggest that Chicago Med/ When the Street Lights Go On star Sophie Thatcher is joining the franchise. Yet, this report hasn't been officially confirmed.
Fans will be more excited to find out which characters are coming back in The Mandalorian season 3. Many were hoping that Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), and others are returning in the latest installment.
Meanwhile, it was suggested earlier this year that the franchise will be receiving spin-offs. Prior to his resignation, former Disney CEO Bog Iger hinted at the "possibility of infusing with more characters" and they'll take them in their own direction.
Right now, it's yet to be seen who among the characters will get a spin-off and whether Boba Fett is one of them. There is a report that a Cara Dune (Gina Carano) spin-off alongside Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) is in the works. However, this appears to be a rumor for the time being.
We will update fans when more details are available about The Mandalorian season 3 and other spin-off series.
