Viewers will be seeing a new, yet familiar face once The Mandalorian season 2 premieres on Disney+. It has been previously confirmed that Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet star Timothy Olyphant will be joining the Star Wars series. His role, however, remains a mystery at the moment.

In a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, Olyphant is set to play an undisclosed role in the upcoming The Mandalorian season 2. No further details were revealed about his role, and whether he'll be playing a new character or a returning favorite.

New reports suggest Olyphant's character may wear Boba Fett's armor in the second installment, though that doesn't mean he'll play the character. Instead, the actor may play Cobb Vanth, a character who first introduced Chuck Wendig's Aftermath book series.

The show has been trying its best to keep things under wrap and doesn't share much information about what to expect. What's exciting about Olyphant's appearance is that he's someone who could play both drama and comedy; two elements that could make the series more interesting.

Olyphant is also a great actor and his arrival in The Mandalorian season 2 could bring more fun and excitement. In addition to Santa Clarita Diet, the actor also appeared in different shows including HBO's Deadwood and FX's Justified.

But aside from Olyphant, The Mandalorian season 2 will also welcome other faces. For instance, Terminator star Michael Biehn will reportedly be involved in the new season, while Temuera Morrison is set to play fan-favorite Boba Fett.

Katee Sackhoff also joins the latest installment and will be playing her Clone Wars' role, Bo-Katan Kryze. This is quite an unexpected move, given that most actors don't usually get to play their characters in the live-action. She is one of the most essential characters in Clone Wars.

Bo-Katan is largely involved in the plotline of Daksaber in both Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. In the latter series, Sabin Wren handed over the Darksaber to Bo-Katan to bring the Mandalorians together. Hence, the character will further play an important role in the Disney+ series.

The Mandalorian season 2 was able to finish filming prior to the real-life health crisis. But despite that, the release date remains uncertain at the moment. There's a chance it could arrive by the end of the year. But then, everything depends on the current situation.

Meanwhile, it seems like Disney+ is certain when it comes to the future of The Mandalorian. Reportedly, the series is one of the biggest original in the streaming platform, which is enough to continue delivering more stories. There is no official renewal of the third installment, but many were optimistic about it.

In fact, executive producer Jon Favreau is confident about the future of the series. Variety reported that a source claims Favreau is currently writing the story of season 3. The team has, reportedly, started pre-production and looked into more adventures from the potential third installment.
