Castle Rock season 2 is confirmed to be coming back on Hulu, and the upcoming installment will explore the Misery theme with Lizzy Caplan. The actress will play the character of as Annie Wilkes, a psychopathic nurse and a literary superfan portrayed by Kathy Bates in the 1990 movie.
Castle Rock season 2 is expected to shift with a new story, focusing on a new theme and now exploring the origin of Misery's terrifying nurse. As reported by Deadline, Caplan is the younger and slightly more stable version of Wilkes who's battling to overcome mental health issues. The second installment centers around her, and she'll be entangled in the town of Castle Rock because of the feud between two warring clans
Joining Caplan to lead Castle Rock season 2 includes Eighth Grade star Elsie Fisher, Garrett Hedlund (Mosaic), as well as Tim Robbins (Here and Now). Other cast members set to join the upcoming season are Matthew Alan (13 Reasons Why), Yusra Warsama (Assassin's Creed: Origins), and Barkhad Abdi (Blade Runner 2049).
Fisher will portray the character of Joy, the home-schooled teenage daughter of Wilkes who starts to question her mother's sanity. Robbins will be Reginald "Pop" Merrill - a character from Stephen King's novella The Sun Dog from his 1990 Four Past Midnight collection. He is at reckoning with his crime family since he's dying from cancer.
Hedlund is the bully John "Ace" Merrill, he will be taking over the business of his uncle Pop, and he is threatening the peace with nearby Jerusalem's Lot. Meanwhile, Alan is Chris Merrill - Ace's brother - and he's struggling to keep the peace between the Merrills and the Somali community. Warsama will be Dr. Nadia Omar, while and Abdi is Abdi Omar and Nadia's older brother.
The first season of Castle Rock premiered in July 2018 on Hulu, and it is the second series from the King universe, the partnership started with 11.22.63 based on the novel of the same name. The streaming platform noted that following the first day of the launch of Castle Rock, the series became the most successful first season Hulu Original.
The showrunners and executive producers of the series include Sam Shaw, Dustin Thomason, JJ Abrams, Mark Lafferty, Ben Stephenson, Liz Glotzer, and King himself and produced by Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros Television. Currently, Castle Rock season 2 has no official release date, but some reports say it will likely premiere around July-September 2019 and it will be exclusive on Hulu.
