It has been a year since fans last saw Kiefer Sutherland as the U.S. President Tom Kirkman on Designated Survivor. With the show's ending, is there still a chance for Designated Survivor Season 4 to come?
According to Devdiscourse, Netflix canceled Designated Survivor Season 4 due to some issues with the actors' contracts, although the streaming giant neither denies nor confirms the claim. However, in an interview with Scala Radio, via Digital Spy, Sutherland himself seemed to hint the issue about the contract.
He said their agreements were so complicated and different compared to network TV. Netflix didn't "book a lot of actors" who were originally part of the show.
So, these stars started looking for other jobs to do. This might mean that doing Season 4 would be similarly "complicated and difficult." For Sutherland, this is the right time for them to find and do something new.
Anyhow, Netflix is, reportedly, planning to feature the show's previous seasons, even though it is yet to reveal when it will happen. There are also rumors that the new season will hit the network this year. However, 2020 is about to come to an end, but nothing comes to fruition yet.
Also, there are beliefs that Netflix officials will renew the series for, at least, another season if everything falls into places. With its high ratings on IMDb and its social media pages remain active, its is said to be a good sign of renewal.
So, why fans remain hopeful that there will be a new season? After Tom won the presidential election and had to stay for another four years in the office, viewers were expecting to see an impeachment after he hid the information that would make Cornelius Moss (Geoff Pierson) guilty for bio-attack attempts.
If Designated Survivor Season 4 will push through, fans are about to see how Tom's integrity and morality as a president will be tested. After he decided to hide the truth in the previous season, he will realize he is becoming just like everyone else in the White House who are abusing their powers.
In addition, Lorraine Zimmer (Julie White) may be behind bars for illegal hacking, along with Emily Rhodes (Italia Ricci). As things may get pretty intense, why did the producers cancel the show?
According to Pop Culture Times, the show's creator has yet to reveal the reason behind Designated Survivor Season 4's cancellation. David Guggenheim believed he had given the show a proper conclusion that it didn't need to continue with another season.
But, this is not the first time that the show has been canceled after ABC stopped featuring the series after just two seasons. Fortunately, Netflix saved the day by creating Season 3, so fans remain hopeful that there will a fourth season coming.
