Queen of the South season 5 resumes filming following production shutdown earlier this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It remains to be seen how the story moves forward, but it looks like one of the major cast members in the past is returning.

A behind-the-scenes photo of Queen of the South season 5 teased that one particular character is coming back. A recent post on Instagram confirmed that Teresa Mendoza's (Alice Braga) closest ally will return and be part of the story moving forward.

Recently, director and stunt coordinator Ben Bray shared a photo on his Instagram account confirming that Alejandro Barrios will reprise his role as Chicho in the fifth installment. He is one of the essential characters, particularly as Teresa's sicario.

Now that Teresa is in a tight position, Chicho could be forced to team up with the queenpin again as her operation expands and continues. Since her business is being threatened, she needs to surround herself with sicarios willing to do dirty works for her.

Initially, fans believed that Chicho's place in Teresa's business has been threatened following an unsuccessful job in season 4. It can be recalled that he was attacked by the queenpin's rival, Elias (Christopher Márquez), and was almost killed.

The good thing is that Chicho's survived, thanks to Teresa's right-hand man, Pote Galvez (Hemky Madera). Although the sicario's position in the queenpin's circle was jeopardized because of what happened, he remains loyal to his employer.

Following the announcement of Chicho's return in Queen of the South season 5, fans were quick to comment on Bray's Instagram update. One fan thanked him for sharing the behind-the-scene photo and for spoiling them for updates.

Meanwhile, Molly Burnett has been promoted as a series regular in the upcoming installment. The actress portrays Kelly Anne Van Awken, a recurring character since season 2. She is an on-and-off member of Teresa's drug operation, but her drug addiction puts her in danger in season 3.

She achieved sobriety in season 4 and she'll possibly return in Teresa's life as the queenpin expanded her operations in New Orleans. They could end teaming up again to take down new enemies along the way. Kelly Anne might be a significant part of the story moving forward.

Queen of the South season 5 sees Teresa needing all the help that she can get in order to take down Judge Lafayette (Cecil Andrews). After what happened to her in season 4, she is set to face the biggest problem in her business yet.

Aside from dealing with her on-going feud with the Judge, the return of her former lover, James Valdez (Peter Gadiot), could further complicate the situation. The queenpin has to rely on the rest of her loyal team to ensure that she'll survive until the end.

Queen of the South season 5 is slated to come out at some point in 2021.
