Animal Kingdom season 5 has resumed production in September following filming shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year. The cast and crew are back on set and preparing to deliver a lot of interesting stories moving forward. However, there's still a question regarding its premiere date.

TNT has yet to announce the official release date of Animal Kingdom season 5. But, some signs suggest it is coming "soon." Series star Shawn Hatosy (Pope) shared on Twitter that he didn't have an answer as to when the show could arrive, but he noted that they're "getting closer" to learning it.

The good thing is that some episodes of the new season have been filmed prior to the production shut down. They didn't start on scratch when they resumed working in September. But then, a lot of things are still needed to be done, particularly the post-production work.

For now, the official arrival of Animal Kingdom season 5 remains unknown. The decision depends on TNT, as well as when filming could wrap up. Since production has been delayed, there is a possibility that the next chapter is coming in 2021.

As for the story itself, a new era is coming for the Cody Boys -- J (Finn Cole), Craig (Ben Robson), Deran (Jake Weary), and Pope -- once the series returns. The new season could see them trying to keep their operation afloat even after the death of Smurf (Ellen Barkin).

Smurf was the one leading all their operations, but now that she's gone, the Codys have to secure all her contacts. In Animal Kingdom season 5, the Cody Boys start from scratch and must find a way to build their own empire. Each of them could find a role for themselves, but the situation won't be easy.

J thinks that he's a master strategist, but Craig, Deran, and Pope may not be fine with him leading. Conflicts could arise even if they're already familiar with how their operations work. They may not agree on certain things, but they need to convince more people to be on their side.

Angela's (Emily Deschanel) role in the lives of the Codys will also be explored in the upcoming installment. She has experiences within the realm and they may consider trusting her. She was introduced in season and she could have a significant role moving forward.

Animal Kingdom season 5 will see more of Pamela Johnson (Milauna Jackson), as well. Smurf left most of her money to this woman, though it's uncertain why she did that. The two know each other, and Pamela was the first person who helped Smurf after she got away from Jed (Joseph Morgan).
