Netflix has officially renewed Space Force season 2. The comedy series debuted on the streaming platform in May 2020, dropping all of its 10 episodes at once. Since then, viewers have been waiting for an announcement as to whether the show is renewed or canceled.

In a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, it was confirmed that Space Force season 2 is happening. Many were delighted by the news, especially since the series is one of the most-watched shows on Netflix. But despite its success, critics were, reportedly, less receptive to it.

The upcoming installment is said to be undergoing "creative revamp" with Greg Daniels (The Office) and Norm Hiscock (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) serving as showrunners. Additionally, series star Jimmy O. Yang (Dr. Chan Kaifang) will be joining the writing staff.

As per sources, the hope is that the second installment allows the series to grow creatively and better connect with viewers and critics alike. The new chapter is expected to be more creative than the first one, though it will continue to bring comedy and humor.

Space Force season 2 changes its filming location, as well. It was moved from Los Angles to Vancouver. Filming hasn't started as of the moment, and it is set to kick off sometime in 2021. No official release date has been set for the upcoming installment.

As for who's returning in Space Force season 2, Steve Carell will be reprising his lead role General Mark R. Naird. John Malkovich is coming back as Dr. Adrian Mallory, Diana Silvers as Erin Naird, Tawny Newsome as Captain Angela Ali, and Ben Schwartz as F. Tony Scarapiducci.

Meanwhile, the plot of the next installment is unknown as of yet. But, it will likely pick up the events that transpired at the end of the first season. The series follows a group of people who are tasked with establishing the United States Armed Forces, which is the United States Space Force.

Mark, the first Chief of Space Operations of the Space Force, was in charge to get "boots on the moon" by 2024. However, he made a difficult decision and put his future on the line. The President's administration wanted retaliation after the Chinese base ran over the American flag on the moon.

Mark defied this order, so he and his supporters got detained. Yet, he managed to escape and was able to save his daughter, Erin, and he reunited with his family. Space Force season 2 could see the character making a choice: going back to the base to assist the team or going somewhere else.
