Green Lantern is one of the newest DC TV series coming on HBO Max. Greg Berlanti is set to produce the new superhero show, with Seth Grahame-Smith serving as the showrunner. Now, it seems like the series may begin production at some point next year.
Green Lantern is, reportedly, eyeing an April 2021 filming start date. The production is said to be taking place in Los Angeles, which is different from Berlanti's other Arrowverse shows. Most of the series are usually being filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
This is the first time -- since the first installment of Supergirl -- that one of Berlanti's DC shows chose Los Angeles as a filming location. Because it is aiming for April 2021 start date, there is a chance the series will premiere at the end of next year. The first season will consist of a total of 10 episodes.
Green Lantern may not encounter many filming setbacks despite the current situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show will likely film a lot of scenes inside the studio with green backgrounds, considering its heavy sci-fi nature.
Meanwhile, Green Lantern isn't an Arrowverse spin-off series, but it is set in the Arrowverse Multiverse. This has been confirmed during the Crisis on Infinite Earths when a new Multiverse was revealed, including the new show taking place on Earth-12.
Casting is underway at the moment, but viewers can expect a lot of characters in the story. Also, the Green Lantern Corps will introduce a new member who is half-human and half-alien: Bree Jarta. The character is said to be a Black woman in her thirties.
Bree was born to a human father and an alien mother. She grew up in an advanced society, which is considered as more enlightened planet with an advanced society. She takes her job seriously than her peers and outperformed them.
But aside from Bree, two characters have been introduced, as well: Guy Gardner and Alan Scott. The former is a "personification of the hyper-patriotism" in the 1980s but still likable and a loving husband and father, while the latter is the model of the early 1940s but he's keeping the fact that he's gay in his era.
In addition to these three, Green Lantern will also feature Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Sinestro, and Kilowog. They are all part of the Corps, and each of them will have an important role in the story. Fans will get more updates when more details are unveiled.
