Ruth Langmore may play a significant part in the upcoming Ozark season 4. Showrunner Chris Mundy seemingly teased that Julia Garner's character will evolve in a huge way entering the final installment of the hit Netflix's crime drama series.

In a report from Express, Mundy hinted at what viewers can anticipate in Ozark season 4. The third installment ended with the Byrde family heading into a new dangerous new territory. Because of that, there's a chance Ruth Langmore will take control of the entire operation.

In season 3, Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) dealt with new problems, including the arrival of the latter's brother Ben (Tom Pelphrey). The married couple also struggled with their feud with Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer).

Amidst everything that's going on with Marty and Wendy, things went well for their young apprentice Ruth, who experienced a lot of traumatizing events in the first two seasons. She managed to survive Frank Cosgrove Jr.'s (Joseph Sikora) attack, as well as Helen's torture.

After the things that she's been through, Ruth is now running the Missouri Belle casino and set up her own laundering team. She is poised as another rival for the Byrdes after quitting her partnership with them, and now joining heroin dealer Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery).

Mundy explained that Ruth's traumatizing past shaped her and helped her development. In Ozark season 4, Garner's character will have far more leverage in the laundering world than Marty and Wendy. Her drastic transformation could further shake up the world of the Byrde family.

In addition, she might be seeking revenge after losing her boyfriend Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey), who was assassinated under Wendy's orders. Ruth is likely holding a grudge against the Byrde's matriarch that's why she decided to turn her back on the family.

In the early run of the series, Ruth was ashamed of her family background. But, later on, she began embracing her identity as a Langmore and was able to build a name for herself. She first emerged as an unimportant player in the story, but her confidence grows as the series progresses.

In Ozark season 4, viewers will witness more of her evolution and how her first appearance is different from where she is now. Since the final installment is confirmed to be split into two parts, there would be a lot of time to flesh out Ruth's story.

Ozark season 4 has no official release date, but it is expected to come out in either 2021 or 2022.
