Fans will once again see Song Joong Ki on the small screen in Arthdal Chronicles Season 2. However, it looks like it will take time before it returns on TV despite the series' renewal.

Although the Korean fantasy received some negative reviews, it couldn't be denied that fans are waiting to see Arthdal Chronicles Season 2. With the hopes it will improve, from storyline to visual effects, when will the new season see the light of the day?

According to Devdiscourse, the Korean drama's production has remained mum about the second season's possible release date. Sadly, just like any TV and movie production tpday, the series has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although show renewal is rare in Korean dramas, this epic historical fantasy luckily receives a second season. It was officially renewed in February, saying a second installment would definitely be in the works, Forbes noted.

Its filming was initially set to star in September, while it was scheduled to be out in 2021. However, with the production delay, it was then removed from next year's viewing schedule.

The COVID-19 has reshaped the world of traveling, and as the series' staff and crew need to film in Brunei, they can't do so this time. With that, Studio Dragon revealed its production remains to be "uncertain" until today.

As the coming of Arthdal Chronicles took six months before it was officially announced, it might take a long time before it started filming. The uncertainties might have something to do with the mixed reviews the show received and low viewership ratings in Korea, despite the all-star cast and big production budget.

Game of Thrones fans criticized the show for having some similarities with the hit HBO TV series. Some said it had a "poor use of CGI" and a mediocre plotline that seemed to be similar to foreign fantasy dramas and movies about ancient times. Some also complained of its slow-paced storyline that made some viewers lost their interest.

Anyhow, it still earned massive support from international fans. Soompi reported the first season's main stars would return to reprise their roles, like Jang Dong-gun, Kim Ji-won, and Kim Ok-win as Tag-gon, Tan-ya, and Tae-ha.

Of course, fans will again see Song Joong-ki as Eun-seom and Saya, and other stars who survived the previous season. However, Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 will reportedly have a new director after Season 1 director Kim Won Suk said he would only helm the first installment. He has also left Studio Dragon, which produces Arthdal Chronicles, so the chances of his return are improbable.
