Meghan Markle is proud of her freckles that she once filed a copyright to a quote her father, Thomas Markle, used to say about her facial marks.

According to The Scottish Sun, Meghan filed the copyright to her father's reminders in the mid-90s. Thomas apparently frequently told his daughter, "a face without freckles is a night without stars."

The Duchess of Sussex was a still teenager at that time, but she was quite aware that her appearance is different. The biracial wife of Prince Harry has a Caucasian father and an African-American mother, Doria Ragland, thus her standout appearance.

The listing from the United States Copyright Office stated her full name, Rachel Meghan Markle, and her birth year, 1981. According to The Sun, no other individual born in the same year goes by this name, proving that it is the Duchess of Sussex who filed the paperwork. The copyright office also said that the quote is not plagiarism despite some people speculating that it is a line from the song "A Sky with No Blue" by Pala Joy Waltar.

In an interview with Allure in 2017, Meghan said that her skin tone and freckles have brought a conundrum many times before. She said that her skin color didn't bother her when she was a little girl because she always got this sense of belonging from her mixed-race family. However, when she went to college and had an African-American studies class, Meghan said she learned about colorism.

Prince Harry's wife said she finally had a name for what she was feeling. The Duchess of Sussex said that she used to feel that she was "too light" to fit into the black community and "too mixed" to be considered a Caucasian.

During auditions, the former TV star said that casting directors would label her "ethnically ambiguous." But the thing that irks her the most is when beauty magazines would airbrush her freckles and change her skin tone.

Meanwhile, her close relationship with her father changed after Meghan married Prince Harry. The father and daughter are now embroiled in a legal battle over her privacy.

The Duchess of Sussex said that the tabloid owned by Associated Newspapers corrupted after he was convinced to collaborate to provide private stories about her. Meghan and her father are supposed to face off in court. The judge said that Thomas might not have to be present in-person since he can give his statements via video recordings. Meghan's lawsuit against Associated Newspapers with Thomas as a witness will begin trial in the fall of 2021.
