Prince Harry and Prince William marked their appearances as young characters in The Crown season 4, which Netflix released on Nov. 15. A royal expert said that the streamer is considering extending the drama series' storylines to feature the Dukes of Sussex and Cambridge as adults.

Omid Scobie, the author of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's biography Finding Freedom, revealed in his podcast show that he has heard of "rumblings" at the Netflix camp about extending The Crown's plot. Netflix confirmed season 5 and season 6 before the release of season 4.

The show is supposed to end before it reaches the time period where the dukes are adults. However, Scobie's revelation suggested that The Crown will cover storylines after Princess Diana's death in 1997.

Scobie said that this might become a problem for the present-day members of the royal family. He said that House of Windsor might not be able to "stomach" the future episodes amid reports that they are not happy with the fourth season.

The Crown season 4 covers the time period from 1980 to 1990, where Prince Charles and Princess Diana met, got married, and discovered that they have nothing in common. Harry and William were introduced as children in this installment.

But the show's creator, Peter Morgan, told The Hollywood Reporter that he will not be telling stories about the royals until 20 years had passed. He said he's much more comfortable writing about events that happened "at least 20 years ago."

Thus, Harry and Meghan's story and William and Kate's life, will likely not become part of his series. Morgan said, however, that he can include stories about Harry and Meghan "through analogy and metaphor."

The Crown season 5 will cover the 1990s, leading up to Princess Diana's death and the 50th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Prince Harry and William were teenagers during this period.

On the other hand, the sixth season will be considered "extra episodes" that will not bring the show closer to the present day, the creator confirmed. He hinted that the show might end in the year 2007, the final term of Prime Minister Tony Blair, and passed the Queen's Golden Jubilee as the monarch. Prince William was 25, and Prince Harry was 23 in 2007, and both have been training and working for the British army.

The Crown season 5 and 6 will feature Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip. Casting for older William and Harry has not been revealed. The show will start filming in the middle of 2021 and will likely be ready to stream on Netflix at the end of 2022.
