Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines) has been dead since the first season of Riverdale. Although the character shows up in some form, there is no official confirmation he'll be regularly appearing in the teen drama. However, fans have been speculating he's coming back from the dead in Riverdale season 5.

Previously, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared on Twitter the first poster of Riverdale season 5. The image featured a rotting hand coming out from the grave, and the Sweetwater River can be seen in the background. This prompted fans to speculate that a certain character will be resurrected.

Aguirre-Sacasa captioned the poster: "Nothing stays buried forever." Fans believe that this is a hint that someone who's presumably dead will show up. There are many potential characters as to who this could be, with Jason Blossom being the top candidate.

Jason's body was discovered in the Sweetwater River, which is the background of the new poster. The hand also belongs to a dead person, suggesting that Cheryl Blossom's (Madelaine Petsch) twin brother may play a significant part in the story moving forward.

The character had occasionally appeared in flashbacks and made a horrific come back in season 3 when the cult Farm brainwashed his twin sister. Jason, who was killed by their own father Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope), might be resurrected in a supernatural twist in Riverdale season 5.

However, the biggest problem is how the series will include supernatural elements, given that the teen drama hasn't featured such themes since the beginning. It would be odd for the show to bringing someone back from the dead, especially since this wasn't really featured in the story.

Others believe that Riverdale season 5 won't literally resurrect someone, and the poster could be a metaphor. Perhaps, someone from the past -- who's been away from the fictional town -- is coming back and will shake up the lives of the characters.

Meanwhile, the latest installment will address the remaining episodes left in season 4. The early run will feature the prom and the graduation, and then it will proceed in the next chapter. The series brings new stories, as well as new characters along the way.

The 7-year time jump will see the Core Four -- Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) -- living their life as adults. They'll be starting anew, potentially starting romantic relationships with other people.

Riverdale season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, on The CW.
