The Vampire Diaries alum Nina Dobrev is rumored to be joining Riverdale season 5 after fans spotted clues on social media. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but viewers have been wondering whether the actress is giving subtle hints that she's appearing in the latest installment of the teen drama.

Ahead of the official release of Riverdale season 5, Dobrev was seen hanging out with some of the cast of the series. In one of her recent Instagram posts, she shared black-and-white photos of her with Camilla Mendes (as Veronica Lodge), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), and Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom).

The actress wrote in the caption: "all the worlds colliding," which caused fans to quickly speculate that she'll play a part in the fifth installment of The CW series. The speculation further fuels when The Vampire Diaries series creator Julie Plec commented, "Riverdale hang! Wear masks."

While the post didn't confirm anything, the location was tagged in Vancouver, British Columbia -- where the teen drama was filmed. Dobrev also used the hashtag #tb in the caption, which could mean that she may have completed filming -- if ever she'll, indeed, appear.

Meanwhile, Riverdale season 5 will wrap up the remaining episodes left in season 4 before proceeding into the next chapter. There will be a five-year time-jump, with the Core Four -- Betty, Veronica, Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) -- moving onto the next part of their lives.

Fans will see the end of the relationship between Archie and Veronica, as well as Jughead and Betty. The Core Four will experience a lot of changes, and they'll meet their new love interests. Their lives become entirely different now that they're adults.

The time-jump sees Veronica's controlling and neurotic husband Chad Gekko, while Jughead enters a new relationship with a train-wreck-y hipster Jessica. No official casting news has been revealed, but some speculated Jughead's new girlfriend is Dobrev's potential character.

Reportedly, the creators of the series are looking for someone who will portray Jessica in Riverdale season 5. In the event Dobrev plays the role, she won't be staying that long as the character is just seemingly created to drive Jughead's storyline further.

Based on the character's description, Jessica feels she's not that important to Jughead. She is unhappy being with him from the start and made it no secret she's done with their relationship. It doesn't seem like the character is sticking around as she's only listed as a recurring guest star.

Riverdale season 5 is premiering on Wednesday, Jan. 20, on The CW.
