Skeet Ulrich is leaving his FP Jones role once Riverdale season 5 arrives on The CW. The actor announced earlier this year his plans to leave after being part of the series for four seasons. Now, fans have been wondering how the character will be written out in the story.

Recently, Ulrich filmed his final scenes in Riverdale season 5. The actor bid goodbye to the cast and crew and shared on his Instagram a photo of himself dressed as FP. Some of his co-stars commented on his post, including Hermione Lodge star Marisol Nichols, who's also set to leave the series.

Shortly after that, fans speculated what would be the future of the character. Previous rumors suggest that FP might be killed off at some point in the story. However, series creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa seemingly confirmed that Ulrich's characters won't die.

In a statement, Aguirre-Sacasa discussed Ulrich and Nichols' departure. He said that he's grateful to the two for their incredible work on the series for the last four years. He added that both of them are always welcome back in the show.

The series creator hinted that the door remains open for Ulrich and Nichols, indicating that neither of them is going to die. There'll be a seven-year time jump, with the teens leaving their high school days behind. This means their parents won't frequently appear in the story.

Meanwhile, Riverdale season 5 started filming in September in Vancouver. The series picks up some of the stories left in the previous season. The fourth installment wasn't properly wrapped up as production was halted due to the real-life health crisis.

The new season kicks off with the prom storyline, which was originally part of season 4. Also, we're going to see the teens graduating and going into totally new territory. The story will be different from what we've seen in the previous installments.

It's interesting to see the Core Four -- Archie (KJ Apa), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) -- facing new challenges of being adults. Some new faces will arrive in the town and shake up the story, as well.

Riverdale season 5 will be introducing new characters following the seven-year time jump. One of the new faces is Pop Tate's (Alvin Sanders) granddaughter, Tabitha Tate. The character is played by Erinn Westbrook, and described as an "ambitious and entrepreneurial woman."

Tabitha's presence could have a huge impact on the lives of some characters, especially the Core Four. She's determined to turn her grandfather's business, Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe, into a franchise diner even though the town is dying.

Riverdale season 5 is expected to arrive in 2021 on The CW.
