Riverdale season 5 hasn't started production yet. Right now, there's no clear update when filming could begin in Vancouver since there is a lot to consider due to the current global health crisis. But, the new installment is expected to premiere at some point 2021 on The CW.

Despite the long wait, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been sharing updates about what's coming in Riverdale season 5. For instance, his recent Instagram post is a photo of Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) at prom.

This particular scene is something that was already filmed prior to the production shut down in March. The episode wasn't entirely completed so this is one of the first things that should be done when cast and crew start working again.

Riverdale season 5 has a specific plan for the future. The series will wrap up all the remaining stories originally planned in season 4 before moving forward in the new installment. It's yet to be seen what the changes are in the series, including whether or not there'll be a time jump.

But, prom and graduation ceremony are definitely some of the stories that will be featured once the series returns. In a previous interview with TVLine, Aguirre-Sacasa teased that these two significant events would be tackled in the latest installment.

The executive producer said prom and graduation are big events and they've already written stories in episodes 21 and 22. He described these two episodes as "big" and "emotional," and added that more interesting stories could play out moving forward.

Riverdale season 5 kicks off with the last three episodes originally planned for season 4. The upcoming installment picks up where they left off, in which prom and graduation will be featured. Aguirre-Sacasa noted they won't take these events away from the teens since they've been together in high school for years.

Meanwhile, Skeet Ulrich (F.P Jones) and Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge) are coming back in the upcoming installment to finish their arc. Their exits are, originally, planned in season 4 but they weren't given a closure because of the production shut down.

Ulrich and Nichols will return in Riverdale season 5 to give their characters a proper ending. The two will have a great send-off since they've been part of the series from the beginning. Ulrich plays the roles of Cole Sprouse's Jughead father, while Nichols plays Camila Mendes' Veronica Lodge mother.
