Nam Joo Hyuk credited his mother for his successful acting career.

According to the Start-Up actor, he owes a lot to his mother, especially for putting him in the right frame of mind when he chose to pursue acting.

In an interview for Star 1 Magazine, Nam Joo Hyuk talked about an email that his mother sent him when he was still a basketball player. He said that when he chose to shift careers, he re-read the email again, and it gave him the encouragement and determination he needed to succeed in his new craft. He confessed that he still refers to the email whenever he is feeling mentally or emotionally drained. Nam Joo Hyuk has come a long way since his early days in acting.

This year alone, he appeared in multiple projects, which challenged his skills in different ways. He said that he enjoyed transforming physically for his role in The School Nuse Files and relished the chance to do something unique for a role. He also talked about his reunion with Han Ji Min for their movie Josee, a remake of the film Josee and the Fish. The pair starred together previously for the movie Radiant.

Nam Joo Hyuk admitted that he felt a tremendous amount of pressure for the role because it was a remake. However, he tried his best to deliver on the vision that director Kim Jong Kwan had for the film.

This was a far different experience than the drama Start-Up because he said that everyone had a blast behind the scenes with a very relaxed atmosphere.

He said, though, that his real-life personality is very different from his character Nam Do San. He said that, unlike his character, he loved communicating and being around other people. He shared some similarities with his Do San and said he related to his character's courage and determination.

The series recently wrapped up filming with an ending that was met with mixed reviews. While many fans supported the endgame pairing of Do San and Dal MI, some were rooting for Han Ji Pyeong to end up with the girl.

Even before the year ends, Nam Joo Hyuk has lined up his next project with several big-name stars. Nam Joo Hyuk landed a role in the drama HERE, alongside Lee Byung Hun, Shin Min Ah, and Bae Sung Woo. His Josee leading lady Han Ji Min was also cast for the drama, Soompi reported.
