Singapore will become the sixth market for Disney+ in Asia Pacific following Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan and Indonesia, the company said.

"Streaming services have become an integral part of the daily lives for many consumers in Singapore and we are dedicated to ensuring that Disney+ offers the best-in-class entertainment experience for all audiences," The Walt Disney Co. Asia Pacific regional lead of emerging markets Amit Malhotra told The Straits Times on Friday.

During its Investor Day presentation, The Walt Disney Co. said in the U.S. Thursday that its Disney+ streaming service will soon be adding Singapore to its footprint in Asia.

The streaming service will launch there Feb. 23. The Singapore product offering will include Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and the revamped international brand Star.

Disney+ will launch in Singapore at a price of S$11.98 ($8.99) a month of S$119.98 a year.

Disney unveiled other new streaming content at the presentation. The company outlined more than 100 new movies and shows that will be released as part of its direct-to-consumer streaming-focused strategy.

Disney's chairperson and former chief executive officer Bob Iger said the company would concentrate on "quality not volume." He said that the company was utilizing its most popular franchises - such as Star Wars and Marvel - for future content.

Disney plans to release three new Marvel television series as well as a holiday special featuring the cast of "The Guardians of the Galaxy."

While the company may be leaning more toward creating content for its streaming services, Disney will still produce feature films. These include a new Star Wars film "Rogue Squadron" in 2023 and two new Pixar films in 2022.

The company expects to get up to 350 million subscribers throughout its Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu offerings. Disney will spend up to $16 billion a year on content.

The company said its yearold Disney+ service now had around 86.8 million users. Its Hulu service had 38.8 million users and its ESPN+ service had 11.5 million users - ahead of its previously released guidance.

Disney's stock price is up by 7% since the start of the year.
