His Dark Materials season 2 episode 7 is going to be the season finale of the fantasy drama. The second installment was cut short, largely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The good thing is that the planned eighth episode wasn't, reportedly, essential in the story.
The major plot coming in His Dark Materials season 2 episode 7 centers around Will Pary (Amir Wilson). He continues with his journey in finding his father, who's been missing for 13 years. He's been searching for him for quite some time now, but still hasn't got an answer regarding his whereabouts.
Based on the synopsis, Will's mission in finding his father becomes more pressing while all paths converge on Cittàgazze. The road to finding him wasn't that smooth, so he needs the help of others -- particularly Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen).
Beyond this storyline, His Dark Materials season 2 episode 7 sees certain characters still searching for the knife. In fact, Jopari (Andrew Scott) and Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) tried to find it after surviving the balloon crash. However, the Magisterium is closer to it than they thought.
Meanwhile, Ruta Skadi (Jade Anouka) informed Serafina Pekkala (Ruta Gedmintas) about the plan of Lord Ariel Belacqua (James McAvoy). But, Serafina is determined to maintain her duty to Lyra. Also, Mary Malone (Simone Kirby) bids goodbye to Angelica (Bella Ramsey) and Paola (Ella Schrey-Yeats).
Since this is the final episode of the second installment, the series may leave some cliffhanger. The third season wasn't officially announced, though previous reports suggested that plans were being made. It is said to adapt Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass.
One more episode is coming before His Dark Materials season 2 episode 7 arrives. In the penultimate, Lyra is in danger while Will needs some healing. Lee and Jopari will be involved, as they'll be exploring the Cittàgazze world while searching for Lyra and the knife bearer.
In the end, Serafina managed to save Lyra and Will from the vengeful Angelica. She brought them to the countryside and checked Will's wound. The witches prepared a spell to heal it. Also, Serafina vows to keep Lyra safe no matter what happens.
The biggest threat here is MacPhail (Will Keen) as he's eager to destroy Lyra after learning how important she is. Her life is at risk, so she -- along with Will and the witches -- fight for their survival. This is something that will continue in the season finale.
His Dark Materials season 2 episode 7 airs on Monday, Dec. 28, on HBO.
