Only two weeks after its launch, Apple's iPhone 12 managed to grab the title of the top 5G smartphone in the world.

Apple launched the iPhone 12 family on October 13 during the company's "Hi, Speed" event. Even before its release, some of its features leaked to the public, raising excitement among Apple fans. The excitement reached fever pitch on the day of its release, paving the way for a barrage of orders from every direction. Financial analysts predicted that the iPhone 12 will beat expectations in terms of sales and today, it appeared those predictions came to fruition. A research group said that iPhone 12 is now the best-selling 5G smartphone in the world and what made it more amazing is that Apple's new flagship achieved such within two weeks of its launch.

According to Counterpoint Technology Market Research, oftentimes referred to as Counterpoint Research, a global research company that specializes in mobile and technology product monitoring, the strong demand for the iPhone 12 will drive the volumes in the pro segment. The research firm also revealed that despite its delayed launch, iPhone 12 maintained the high-interest ratio of its potential customers. Counterpoint Research also said that the iPhone 12 amassed around 24% of all 5G smartphone sales during October, despite being on shelves for only two weeks. "There is a large pent-up demand for 5G upgrade, especially within the iOS base, which is now getting converted into sales," Varun Mishra, Counterpoint analyst, stated in a blog post. This set the stage for the iPhone 12 to grab the title of the world's best-selling 5G smartphone.

Counterpoint Research also noted that promotions from carriers, which helped push iPhone 12's selling price further, accounted for more than a third of the iPhone 12 sales in October. Based on the research firm's findings, the iPhone 12 Pro is the highest-selling 5G smartphone in the world for the month of October and was followed by Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The iPhone 12 occupied the seventh spot of the top 10 best-selling 5G smartphones for the period covering January to October of 2020. Counterpoint said this is a huge feat given that Apple's new flagship models became available only in the last two weeks of October.

The research firm said that aside from pent-up demand, there are many other factors that helped iPhone 12 sales, such as carrier promotions and trade-in marketing strategies. In the case of China and Japan, Counterpoint Research said that the two countries enjoyed strong initial demand for Apple's iPhone 12 series. Industry observers say that compared to offerings made by other 5G smartphones, the new flagship smartphone of Apple enjoyed wider market coverage, thus helping boost its sales.
