The Rookie season 3 picks up the huge cliffhanger that transpired at the end of the season 2 finale. In particular, Nathan Fillion's John Nolan is in a complicated situation after being framed by Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau). It could potentially jeopardize his future, as well as his career.

The premiere title of The Rookie season 3 is "Consequences," which is likely a reference to Nolan's action in the previous installment. He was accused of being a dirty cop, which will be a huge problem for him moving forward. He needs to clear his name and prove his innocence to save his job.

In one of the recently-released sneak peek, Nolan can be seen realizing the mistakes that he has made -- including not recording his conversation with Armstrong and having proper security cameras at home. He didn't expect that he would find himself in this situation, but he now learned from it.

As shown in the clip, Nolan talks to Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) over the phone, with the latter educating him about certain things and being extra careful next time. She is quite experienced than him regarding this matter, so she'll do whatever she can to help him.

Aside from Harper, Nolan's other fellow cops will also try to help him get out of his current situation. Many believe that he is not a dirty cop and won't do something bad to ruin his name. They've worked with him for years, and they're convinced that he's not guilty of anything.

The biggest torn for Nolan in The Rookie season 3 is Armstrong. He is actually the dirty cop who framed him and planted evidence at his home. Nolan trusted Armstrong, but he turns out to be his worst nightmare. It was revealed that the latter was working for the Armenian mob.

A lot of challenges and struggles are coming for Nolan. The early run of the third installment will be intense, given that Armstrong is one of the most formidable adversaries he has encountered so far. Thus, he must do whatever he can to find a way out.

Meanwhile, some changes were recently made when it comes to the production of The Rookie season 3. Deadline reported that the police procedural adjusted its schedule due to positive COVID-19 testing. The good news is that the official release date hasn't been changed.

The Rookie season 3 will be premiering on Sunday, January 3, 2021, on ABC.
