Floyd Mayweather Jr. is returning to the ring in 2021 via an exhibition bout with YouTube star Logan Paul, and he could figure in a rematch afterward. Six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya is planning to fight again and he is challenging the undefeated Mayweather to a second face-off.

The two boxing legends first clashed in May 2007 and De La Hoya is entertaining the idea of taking revenge after more than a decade. It has been 12 years since Golden Boy last climbed atop the ring but he appears confident of blemishing Mayweather's clean record.

De La Hoya said he only intends to meet the best on his return and easily Mayweather comes to mind.

"I've always prided myself on fighting the very best ... Why not go after Mayweather, for instance, in a revenge fight? That's something that is very intriguing. We'll see how I feel, and then we'll take it from there," DAZN reported the 47-year-old as saying.

If Mayweather at least considers another slugfest with De La Hoya, the latter will be given the chance to redeem the disappointments he suffered before retirement. When the two icons first fought, Mayweather escaped with a split decision.

De La Hoya then arranged a meeting with Manny Pacquiao in 2008 and suffered another setback. The loss was so convincing that the Los Angeles native was prompted to retire.

Now, the former champ is saying he is close to his ideal fighting form. The American said he has been conditioning in the last six months and once he sweats out the extra pounds in the coming months, he is ready for the big fight.

Training hard is on De La Hoya's calendar and he added that in achieving the best form for a boxing match, sparring will be on the agenda. Before starting on that road, he must avoid getting injured, said De La Hoya.

"[Sparring is] the next phase of training,' he said. 'I want to make my decision very carefully and think about it after I spar. It's gonna happen very soon," the promoter added, and per the report from The Daily Mail.

A rematch with Mayweather will certainly generate attention but it remains to be seen if the second De La Hoya vs. Mayweather will be the same blockbuster that the first showdown was. That fight's PPV buys totaled 2.4 million and is No. 3 to the all-time high record.

However, Mayweather's continuing pull in the boxing world offers encouragement. The undefeated champ went on to set PPV records with fight dates against Pacquiao and Conor McGregor, and those matches are the bestselling in history. De La Hoya is likely he can equal or exceed the records upon his return.
