Kate Middleton and Prince William will have to go back to homeschooling their children, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte, as the United Kingdom braces for another lockdown.

In a televised announcement Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that primary and secondary schools would stay closed after the Christmas holiday to keep the virus spread under control. After the celebrations over Christmas and New Year, hospitals across the U.K. have had a 30 percent surge of COVID-19 patients.

Earlier, London Mayor Sadiq Khan already ordered primary schools in the city not to open this January because of the accelerating COVID-19 cases. This means that George and Charlotte's school, Thomas's Battersea, will have to shift to homeschool sessions yet again.

This also means that Prince Louis will not be able to start his nursery classes. The youngest of the Cambridge kids was expected to attend his first school after the winter break.

But representatives of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not comment on reports that George and Charlotte will have to homeschool again. According to USA Today, Kensington Palace, instead, referred the press to the government guidelines.

In May 2020, Prince William confessed that he found homeschooling his kids a real challenge because he forgot what he learned in his own school days. Speaking in the documentary Football, Prince William and Mental Health, the Duke of Cambridge joked that he quickly learned that he can no longer do his kids' math questions.

On the other hand, Kate said in a BBC interview that homeschooling and life in quarantine definitely tested their stamina because they had to keep up with their energetic kids. The Cambridge family stayed at Anmer Hall in Norfolk while in lockdown, where there's plenty of space for camping, gardening, cooking, and baking.

The Duchess of Cambridge said that they crammed a lot of the kids' activities into the day, and while this might be exhausting, it made for such lovely family moments. The mother of three also confessed that they kept the homeschooling activities going even if George and Charlotte were supposed to be on a school holiday break just so they could stick with the routine.

Kate and William will likely go back to doing the same routines at home as the new lockdown orders are in place. The Cambridges have been staying at Anmer Hall since the Christmas holiday. Like the rest of the U.K., they are not allowed to travel anymore until the middle of February.
