U.S. President Donald Trump's wife Melania had yet to comment Thursday on the resignation of her chief of staff following the Capitol building riots.

Neither has she spoken about the storming of the building and the killing of one during the mayhem.

Her chief of staff Stephanie Grisham said Thursday "it has been an honor to serve" the U.S. She was "very proud to have been part" of the first lady's "mission to help children everywhere" as well as the other accomplishments of the Trump administration. She resigned Wednesday.

CNN reported her resignation came immediately after the riots. Grisham was one of the longest-serving officials in the administration.

Sources said Donald Trump's "refusal to condemn the violence" may lead to several staff members resigning. They said the U.S. President's behavior "disgusted" many staff.

A senior White House official said Grisham's exit "was precipitated by several months of consternation and struggle." She also "expressed a desire to live closer" to her family in the Midwest.

USA Today said that Grisham began working for the Trumps in 2015. She was Donanld Trump's press wrangler during the 2016 election.

She entered the White House as the deputy press secretary. Melania Trump, however, hired her as her communications director more than a year later.

The U.S. President pulled her back to the West Wing to be his third press secretary while working as communications director at the same time.
