There are a lot of questions surrounding Tracy Spiridakos' Hailey Upton in Chicago P.D. season 8. The early run of the current installment has been hinting at the departure of the character, potentially joining the FBI later on. Although nothing is officially confirmed, some fans were worried.

Upton's status in Chicago P.D. season 8 has been in question after she was given an opportunity to work at the FBI. It can be recalled that she has a sort of experience in the job, and even doing a little bit of work here in the previous installment.

While this is a great opportunity for her, she has a life at Intelligence, and her colleagues may not want to see her go -- particularly Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). The two aren't in a romantic relationship, but their actions show that they do have feelings for each other.

The series is building something romantic for the two, and Halstead may act on his feelings in the event Upton accepts the FBI's offer. He could ask her to stay and remain to be part of the Intelligence. In a previous interview with Cinema Blend, executive producer Rick Eid further discussed the subject.

Eid said that Upton and Halstead have been "silent about their feelings for a long time." He teased that the job offer will serve as the "catalyst" for them to admit their feelings. The decision is all up to Upton, whether she'll stay in Chicago and be with Halsted or go to New York and become an FBI agent.

Right now, there is no official confirmation that Spirikados is, indeed, leaving Chicago P.D. season 8. After all, the series has already featured a similar exit with Sophia Bush's Erin Lindsay. The character also left to join the FBI -- so the police drama wouldn't likely want to repeat the same thing.

Meanwhile, there is no new episode of Chicago P.D. season 8 airing this week as NBC pre-empted the slot due to Washington DC coverage. Viewers may wait for another week to see what's coming for Upton and Halstead, as well as the rest of the characters.

The title of the next episode is "Unforgiven," which is centered around police reform. As per the synopsis, a cop was murdered. They suspected that the killer might have been holding a grudge against the officer. The Intelligence works hard to solve the case but Dep. Supt. Samantha Miller (Nicole Ari Park) wants to know the whole story first before defending the cop.

Chicago P.D. season 8 airs every Wednesday on NBC.
