Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is embarking on a new project to write her first historical romance novel, but she was warned about making "a fool of herself" after saying that the story will have "parallels" from her life.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams predicted that the novel will be "absolutely dreadful" and will likely win a "Bad Sex Award" if that existed. The royal expert added that Prince Andrew's ex-wife had made bad decisions in her life in the past, and this novel might be another bad call.

Sarah said that her great-great-aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott, inspired her to write the historical romance novel, which will be co-written by Marguerite Kaye under the popular British publisher Mills & Boon. She told Peoplethat she was curious about Margaret's life and family history because they shared the same name.

The Duchess of York drew material for her book from her extensive research into her ancestry during the Victorian era and after Prince Albert's death. The book will also follow Lady Margaret's journey from Ireland to America, reflecting the duchess' personal journey.

Her Heart For a Compass is going to be in store shelves by August 2021 and nothing excites the Sarah more than to see through another book's release.

To her credit, Sarah is a bestselling author, but she has mostly written children's books and other non-fiction stories, including her memoir. She also wrote two books on Queen Victoria and helped develop the story of the 2009 movie The Young Victoria.

The duchess said that writing this new novel was different from writing the children's books because she immersed herself in the things she loved: history and Queen Victoria.

Sarah married into the royal family in 1986. But two kids and 10 years after she exchanged vows with Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Philip's third child, the couple agreed to divorce.

They still live under the same roof at the Royal Lodge in Windsor as they agreed to co-parent their two girls. But now that Beatrice and Eugenie are grown-ups with families of their own, the Duke and Duchess of York are still living together because they treat each other as best friends.

Sarah said that she will always stand by her kids' father because he is the "best man I know." She also said that they are a "united family."

In 2011, the Duchess of York said that she really didn't want to end things with the Duke of York, but the press caught her with another man while her divorce wasn't finalized. This scandalized the royal family, prompting the Queen to order the Yorks to dissolve their marriage after years of separation.
