It looks like Chris Hemsworth fans will be getting exactly what they want soon. The Thor: Love and Thunderactor has been confirmed to return in the sequel to his Netflix film Extraction and will be reuniting with the first movie's creative team.

Chris Hemsworth might be known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films but he has also appeared in several action movies including the wildly successful Extraction. However, some fans were also concerned that Hemsworth would not return in a possible sequel to the Netflix thriller. Luckily, director Sam Hargrave has just confirmed that Tyler Rake will be back in Extraction 2.

Sam Hargrave directed the first movie and it has been confirmed that he would helm the sequel as well. In addition to that, filming for Extraction 2 is expected to begin in the latter part of the year. However, Hargrave did point out that he is still concerned that production could be delayed due to COVID-19.

"[That's] still the case, COVID-pending. That's kind of everyone's little caveat right now, but we're moving forward on it as if we're shooting in the fall," Hargrave told Collider.

Sam Hargrave isn't the only member of the first film's creative team. The filmmaker also revealed that Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo, who wrote the screenplay for Extraction, is almost done with the new script.

"Joe is still finalizing the script. We're all excited to read it. I've read different iterations, but I'm excited to read what he turns in," Hargrave said. He then pointed out that he is excited about working on the second movie with Chris Hemsworth.

"We're all looking forward to getting back in the saddle and hopefully bringing another action-packed adventure in the Extraction universe," Hargrave said.

This is exciting news for fans who enjoyed Extraction but it could also mean that Chris Hemsworth's 2021 schedule will be a truly hectic one. The MCU star is currently working on Thor: Love and Thunder in Australia and filming could last into summer. Hemsworth could then start shooting for Extraction 2 by fall.

Extraction starred Chris Hemsworth as a black ops mercenary who is tasked with rescuing an Indian drug lord's kidnapped son in Bangladesh. The film became Netflix's highest grossing movie of 2020 and the sequel could be even better.

Netflix has not yet announced an official production start date or release date for Extraction 2. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
