Black Lightning season 4 will be the final installment of the superhero drama. The CW releases the first trailer recently, and it teases what lies ahead for the titular hero.

When Black Lightning season 4 premieres, Jefferson is still mourning the death of his dear and long-time friend, Detective Bill Henderson (Damon Gupton). In the season 3 finale, the latter tried to rescue Jefferson and his daughter, Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain).

However, Henderson was fatally shot with an anti-meta weapon while saving the two from a Markovian ambush. Shortly after sustaining injuries, he died in Jefferson's arms. In the new season, the titular hero struggling to accept that he lost one of his closest allies.

While dealing with the aftermath of Henderson's death, Jefferson will face the biggest crisis in Black Lightning season 4. As teased in the trailer, he is seemingly giving up his superhero persona. He can be heard in the 40-second clip saying: "I can no longer be the man I was."

Jefferson also made it clear that all he wanted is to save his family and that "Black Lightning's dead." But, despite having thoughts of quitting, it looks like he's still determined to save the city of Freeland from the looming threats.

Elsewhere in the premiere of Black Lightning season 4, Gambi (James Remar) was given an interesting opportunity. On the other hand, Jefferson and Lynn (Christine Adams) were still able to see eye to eye. Since this is the final installment, fans can expect a lot of twists and turn moving forward.

Some characters will be given more exposure, including Chantal Thuy's shapeshifting metahuman, Grace Choi. The actress was a recurring player from the first season before being promoted as a series regular in the final installment.

Grace developed a relationship with Anissa (Nafessa Williams) -- also known as metahuman Thunder and/or Blackbird. In a previous interview with Deadline, Thuy said that her character would further embrace her strength and powers moving forward.

The good news is that even though the main series is ending, there is a spin-off coming in the future. Reportedly, it will have a backdoor pilot in the upcoming installment. Yet, no further details about the story have been officially disclosed.

Black Lightning season 4 premieres on Monday, February 8, on The CW.
