The Witcher: Blood Origin is the prequel of the fantasy drama The Witcher starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. The series has been already planned back in 2020 and was confirmed to be arriving on Netflix. Now, here is what fans need to know about the upcoming show.

At the moment, Netflix hasn't officially revealed the release date of The Witcher: Blood Origin. Yet, some fans speculated that the six new episodes are coming in the spring of 2022. The delayed premiere is due to the filming schedule, as it is expected to begin between May and December 2021.

After filming, a few more months are needed for post-production work. The prequel is two episodes shorter than the first season of the main show, so the wait won't likely be that long. The release date will be unveiled once the majority of the work is done.

Only a few details were known about the casting details of The Witcher: Blood Origin. On Monday, January 25, it was announced that Jodie Turner-Smith will be one of the cast members of the prequel and she's going to play the role of éile.

The character is described as an "elite warrior" and she's blessed with the voice of a goddess. éile left her clan and position as the guardian of the Queen as she wanted to pursue her dream of being a nomadic musician. She's also on her quest for "vengeance and redemption."

Other characters in the prequel include the male lead, Fjall. He is said to be "physically strong, raw, gritty and visceral." He and éile were about the same age, but they came from opposing clans. This suggests that there's going to be a clash for dominance in the story.

Previously, Director Sophie Holland also shared on Twitter that they're searching for actors for The Witcher: Blood Origin. She described "Character G" as a brilliantly sharp-minded female assassin, while "Character Z" as a mystical and earthly conduit who has cerebral palsy.

As for the plot, the prequel is set in the elven world 1,200 years before the events in the flagship show. The story will focus on the Conjunction of the Spheres and the creation of the "first witcher." Since it is set many years ago, Geralt of Rivia won't be part of the plot.

There are a lot of questions surrounding Conjunction of the Spheres, and The Witcher: Blood Origin will provide some answers. This is an important part of the story as certain creatures -- such as vampires, ghouls, and graveirs -- were trapped within this dimension.
