It has been more than five years since fans last saw Nagate Tanikaze on the small screen. As a new Knights of Sidonia movie will come, will it serve as Knights of Sidonia Season 3? Will a new season still be in the works?
As one of Netflix's original anime series, many viewers are waiting for the coming of Knights of Sidonia Season 3. Based on Tsutomu Nihei's space opera and mecha manga series, will it hit the streaming network again?
The third season is expected to continue the original story of Nihei's manga series. As Polygon Pictures and Netflix itself have yet to give any update about the show's return, let alone its plot, it's quite hard to predict what will happen next.
Anyhow, according to Epic Dope, with the announcement of a new movie coming, Knights of Sidonia: The Star Where Love is Spun, the third season may continue the film's storyline. If this happens, fans may be treated with an original animated series.
It's also possible that the creators will take Knights of Sidonia Season 3 in a different direction and continue where Season 2 left off. But will a third season still be made?
In the franchise's official Twitter account, it revealed the film's release, along with the official trailer. The tweet even noted that Knights of Sidonia would be "completed in the theatre."
Does it mean there will be no third season at all? Monsters & Critics reported that instead of another anime series, the third installment would be a movie.
Fandom also noted there might not be Knights of Sidonia Season 3 even if director Hiroyuki Seshita announced its coming and the production, allegedly, started in 2017. The filmmaker didn't even confirm if it would be a third full season series.
The upcoming film is said to take a different direction from the manga and feature a brand new story supervised by Nihei. However, it would have the same cast members as the anime, per Anime News Network.
Yuma Uchida will return as Totaro Yamano, along with Yuto Eumura as Kairi Hamagata, Inori Minase as Iroha Hashine, and Miho Okasaki as Itsuki Hanma.
Knights of Sidonia: The Star Where Love is Spun is set to be out on May 14 in Japan. On the other hand, it remains to be seen when Knights of Sidonia Season 3 will be out or if it will still see the light of the day.
