Snowpiercer season 2 just recently premiered on TNT and Netflix but there have been speculations that the latest installment of the post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller will feature a major loss. Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), in particular, is suspected to be the next casualty.
Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) is the newest adversary in Snowpiercer season 2 and his presence could mean danger to most characters. As everyone on the train fights for their survival and humanity, Melanie might be making a huge sacrifice to save the lives of many.
The second installment kicked off with the introduction of the sadistic inventor Mr. Wilford. He has a lot of plans on his mind and he successfully attached his rival engine to the Snowpiercer train. It was also revealed that Melanie's daughter, Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard), is alive.
Alexandra grew up with Mr. Wilford, making the situation even more complicated for Melanie. Now, she needs the help of Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) and others in order to keep the train from running. This could lead her to make a painful choice to ensure everyone's safety.
In the official trailer of Snowpiercer season 2, Melanie was seen seemingly saying goodbye to Alexandra. She's wearing a protective suit, suggesting that she's about to go on a journey in the frozen outside world. This is a hint that Connelly's character will abandon her daughter once again.
Alexandra can be heard saying that Melanie will leave her for the second time. Her mother responded that there won't be "much chance of a world" for her if she didn't. This could be a huge sacrifice to secure the future of younger generations.
In a previous interview with TVLine, showrunner Graeme Manson also discussed what's coming for Melanie and Alexandra in Snowpiercer season 2. It won't be an "easy ride" for the two and they're about to encounter a lot of challenges along the way.
While death is seemingly on the corner, the latest installment reversed the major death in season 1. Josie Wellstead (Katie McGuinness) has been presumed dead, but it was revealed in the second episode, "Smolder to Life," that she's still alive.
Josie ended up in the Second Class medical cabin and Dr. Pelton (Karin Konoval) took care of her after what happened to her. She was brought in as "Jane Doe" since no one recognized her due to the injuries she sustained. Layton rushes to see her when he finds out she's still alive.
