Barrett Cain's (Morris Chesnut) life remains in question in The Resident season 4. He was put in a dangerous situation after being hit by a car in the second episode. The doctors at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital did their best to save him. However, it's yet to be seen whether he'll make it until the end.

Cain last appeared in The Resident season 4 when he was left in a comatose state following the operation. Until now, there is no clear indication that he survived his current situation. He sustained severe injuries and it seemingly suggests that he won't get better anytime soon.

There is no guarantee that this storyline will be resolved in the next few episodes of the medical drama. As per CarterMatt, the writers possibly want this to continue in order to show that medical crises don't get resolved in a single episode.

Cain often clashes with other doctors -- that's why most of them don't like him. Despite that, they set aside their personal issues to save him. If ever he survives, he may realize his past mistakes and there could be some sort of redemption for him.

Meanwhile, another character is in danger in the next episode of The Resident season 4. In "Home Before Dark," Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) was injured after being attacked by a deranged patient. The biggest concern here is that she just found out that she's pregnant.

Nic tries to de-escalate the situation but she ended up hurting herself in the process. The incident could threaten her pregnancy, but Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) will do everything that he can to save his wife. This is going to be a major challenge for them as newlyweds.

In the fourth episode, Nic didn't immediately share the news about her being pregnant. At first, she hesitated to tell it to everyone due to her previous miscarriage. But then, most of the doctors at the hospital already know what her big revelation is all about.

Eventually, Nic and Conrad announced that they're expecting their first child -- and they're having a baby girl. Everyone is delighted since this is another milestone for the couple. Yet, the celebration is short-lived as their relationship is challenged again now that one of them is in danger.

The Resident season 4 airs every Tuesday night on Fox.
