Almost a year after fans last saw Somali and Golem on the small screen, they are still waiting for the coming of Somali and the Forest Spirit Season 2. There are no words yet for the anime's renewal, and it looks like there's only a little hope for its return.
The first season received a positive response from the viewers since it hit the TV screens on January 9, 2020. However, after dropping a total of 12 episodes in March 26 of the said year, Crunchyroll, which co-produced the series, remains mum about the coming of Somali and the Forest Spirit Season 2.
According to TV Season Spoilers, fans are quite divided about the series' return. Some strongly believe that Season 2 is now in the cards and will soon be in the works.
However, with the lack of any news or updates, others already lose hope to see Somali and Golem again back in action. Why?
Like most of the anime series today, this one also follows its plot from a manga series. It's originally a Japanese fantasy manga written by Yako Gureishi.
So far, he had published six volumes, but it was officially canceled in December 2020 due to the author's health. There are claims the anime's first season has adapted the entire six volumes, and some say it only covers up to the fifth volume.
Whatever the case may be, it looks like there is no enough source material for Somali and the Forest Spirit Season 2 to continue this time. This may be why some believe it may not come to fruition, and its studios, Satelight and HORNETS, are yet to renew the series.
Anyhow, if the anime ever returns, Monsters & Critics noted it might pick up the story from Chapter 24 and resume with Volume 6's Chapter 32. In Chapter 31, Golem started to question his existence after a confrontation with the human hunts.
He then went through a major transformation that made him wonder more about his real identity. This question seemed to tie in with his next journey with Somali that involved the witches.
Lady Laigle became the new chef librarian after the death of Izolda, the previous leader. However, she felt guilty, knowing she hadn't eased the elder's demise.
News about the stolen copy of The Chronicle of Haraiso started, so Laigle decided to go on a journey and find the book. Sadly, this move led to humanity's collapse. Later, the book was located on a floating island amid the dark green marsh, where Somali, Golem, and their traveling companions arrived.
Will this continue in Somali and the Forest Spirit Season 2? Surely, if this happens, fans will once again see the unbreakable, father-and-daughter bond between Somali and Golem.
