Pacific Rim: The Black is an American anime series that is set to arrive next month on Netflix. The upcoming program is based on Guillermo Del Toro's first two live-action movies, Pacific Rim. The story focused on giant robots fighting against the rampaging monsters, known as Kaiju.

Pacific Rim: The Black is set following the events that transpired in the films. The Kaiju emerged from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and they were set to wreak havoc around the Pacific Rim. In order to take them down, humanity built giant robots, called the Jaeger, to combat the monsters.

The upcoming anime series dropped its first trailer just recently, teasing the dangers coming to the world after what happened in the live-action movies. The Jaegers are returning once again to fight the Kaiju emerging from another dimension.

In Pacific Rim: The Black, the giant robots will have new pilots who are trying to stop the invasion that's now taking place in the lost continent of Australia. The recently-released trailer dives further into the world of the Jaeger as they battle against the Kaiju.

The story kicks off several years after, wherein Australia has been overrun by giant monsters. Because of this, people in the entire continent were forced to evacuate and leave. However, two siblings, named Taylor and Hayley, were left behind.

Pacific Rim: The Black follows Taylor and Hayley embarking on a journey together. The siblings were on a desperate search in finding their missing parents. Along the way, they will encounter new creatures, seedy characters, as well as chance allies.

At the same time, Taylor and Hayley teach themselves how to pilot the long-abandoned Jaeger. They're going to try to figure out how to make it work, giving them hope of survival. While trying to locate their parents, they will combat the Kaiju using the giant robot.

The trailer also hints that the Pacific Rim world evolved, now with small Kaijus emerging. Moreover, there is a huge mystery surrounding the kid that the siblings keep on seeing. This is something that will be explored along the way -- and whether the child is, somehow, related to them.

Meanwhile, the anime series will, reportedly, run for about two seasons. It is produced by Japanese studio Polygon Pictures and American company Legendary Television. Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson will both serve as showrunners.

The project was announced bat in November 2018, with Netflix eyeing for a 2020 release. But, in October 2020, it was confirmed during the virtual "Anime Festival" live stream that Pacific Rim: The Black will premiere on Friday, March 4, 2021.
