Clue is a murder mystery board game introduced in 1949, and it was then adapted into a live-action film in 1985. The premise is that players were tasked to investigate rooms and objects to find out who committed the murder. Now, an animated version is, reportedly, being developed.

Recently, Deadline revealed that Clue animated adaptation is in the works. No further details what the story could be all about, but it will likely follow the concept of the game. In the movie, a murder occurred at a dinner party, and the guests were questioned as to who committed the crime.

The game could feature 324 possible outcomes, leading to multiple endings in the story. Since the concept focuses on murder, the live-action film earned a PG-13 rating. But then, it's yet to be seen whether or not the animated version follows the same path.

The animated adaptation is aiming to encapsulate the "thrilling and suspenseful dynamics that have made Clue a global sensation for more than seven decades." President of Entertainment of Fox Entertainment Michael Thorn said that they're excited to develop the project with eOne and Bento Box.

eOne's President of Global Scripted Programming Pancho Mansfield added that they're excited to partner again with Fox and also work with Bento Box. He's also excited to share the reimagined animated versions of Clue with the viewers.

In addition to the animated adaptation, it was announced in 2018 that a film reboot is being developed starring Ryan Reynolds, who will also serve as the producer. At the time, the project was under the actor's new production deal with 20th Fox Century -- now owned by Disney.

Until now, there's still uncertainty about the project but the creative team, reportedly, secured an R-rating. There were also early talks that James Bobin will be directing the reboot. His previous credits include The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, and Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Meanwhile, Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were said to be writing the scripts of the project. The two -- along with Reynold -- will be collaborating with Deadpool 3, which is expected to hit theaters in either 2022 or 2023.

As for the release date of Clue animated adaptation, nothing is confirmed at the moment. The project is still in development and a lot of things are needed to be done. Similarly, the film reboot has no official release date, even though the plan was announced more than two years ago.
