WARNING: This article contains some spoilers for the third season of The Handmaid's Tale. Read at your own risk.

The Handmaid's Tale season 4 was already renewed back in July 2019 and production began in March 2020. However, filming was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving uncertainties on its premiere. Now, the good news is that the official release date of the dystopian-thriller series has been revealed.

The Handmaid's Tale season 4 resumed production back in September 2020 and wrapped up filming in February 2021. Then, a new trailer was unveiled recently and announced the official return of the series on Hulu, which is on Wednesday, April 28.

The fourth installment will, reportedly, consist of a total of 10 episodes. The latest outing also marks Elisabeth Moss's directorial debut, wherein she helmed three episodes. Prior to the production shut down, there's already a plan for the actress to direct a few episodes in the next chapter.

As for what's coming in The Handmaid's Tale season 4, the trailer teases what's next for Moss' June Osborne. It will pick up the character's massive transformation from being a surrogate to being a revolutionary. She joined the secret Martha resistance to save the children and bring Gilead down.

Based on the clip, June is now on the run following her cold act in the season 3 finale. It seems like she managed to solidify her position as a rebel leader; gathering other handmaids and convinced them to fight and not to hide. Gilead, on the other hand, is in the midst of a power struggle.

The trailer of The Handmaid's Tale season 4 also sees Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford), Commander Nick (Max Minghella), and the Waterfords believing that June is about to start a war. She is determined to fight for her freedom and even made a daring move just to achieve her plan.

In the clip, she proclaimed herself as a citizen of the United States. However, some people out there will do whatever it takes to stop her. June wants to bring Gilead down, but the totalitarian state is not backing down. This is going to be one of the major storylines of the upcoming installment.

Meanwhile, there is no need to worry about the future of the series beyond The Handmaid's Tale season 4. Even before the official release date of the latest installment was announced, Hulu already renewed the series for a fifth season.
