The Walking Dead season 10 recently returned on AMC to deliver the six bonus episodes of the post-apocalyptic horror drama. The first one was titled "Home Sweet Home," and it focused on the return of Lauren Cohan's Maggie. Now, there are speculations that she could become Alexandria's new leader.
The first bonus episode of The Walking Dead season 10 saw Maggie coming back with her son, Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller), and a new group of survivors. They went to Alexandria hoping to find a new home in the community. With her arrival, the Safe-Zone may have finally found a new leader.
Alexandria has been ruled by a council rather than a leader after Rick (Andrew Lincoln) died in season 9. Several residents in the community served of the council -- including Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) as the lead member and Michonne (Danai Gurira) as the head of the security.
However, the council lost most of its members after the Whisperer War. Since then, its current state hasn't been discussed. But following Maggie's return, she immediately took charge of the community. Daryl (Norman Reedus) also lets her lead as they search for the remaining group members.
Kelly (Angel Theory) seemed to pick up Maggie's leader vibe as well. She told her that she looks like she's been in charge of the people in her life and she knows how to protect them. While Alexandria has been led by the council, Michonne did some work as a leader after Rick disappeared.
After her departure, Daryl assumed some of the roles. Yet, he hasn't been the one in charge of everything as he often works alongside Carol (Melissa McBride). With Maggie's return, The Walking Dead season 10 might be setting her up as Alexandria's new leader.
A leader for the community is also important in season 11, which serves as the final run of the series. The next installment will, reportedly, adapt the Commonwealth storyline for the comic. The plot is going to introduce this new community which is led by a woman named Pamela Milton.
Maggie might strongest choice to oppose the leader of the Commonwealth, especially with her experiences. The story is likely building her arc to be the new leader of Alexandria and she'll be an essential part of the battle against the new community in the series finale.
